If you’re researching visiting Ho Chi Minh City in February, you’re in the right place. I just published articles on visiting HCMC in December and January, two of the best three months to visit HCMC. The third? February.
I’ll go over February’s weather, crowds, and other travel tips based on my years living in HCMC. Like all of my when-to-visit guides, every photo in this article was taken during the focus month — in this case, February.
Is February a Good Time to Visit Ho Chi Minh City?
February is a great month to visit Ho Chi Minh City. It concludes what, in my opinion, is a trio of three great months to visit the city: December, January, and February. The chance of rain is low, and the temperatures are tolerable for exploring the city on foot. Here’s my article on things to do in HCMC.
Also, you have a chance of experiencing the Tet holiday (Lunar New Year), which I detail further down. This occurs every year in either January or February. For 2026, Tet is on February 17.
Ho Chi Minh City Weather in February
February is firmly part of the dry season in Ho Chi Minh City, which usually runs from December to April. I was in Ho Chi Minh City throughout the previous dry season, and February was a great month to be in the city.
For February weather, expect highs of 33°C (91°F) and lows of 23°C (73°F). It’ll rain for about one total day throughout the month, for around 5 mm of rainfall. This is really nothing. The humidity in February is also at the city’s lowest, so walking around HCMC is much more pleasant. This article covers getting around HCMC.
The chart below compares February to other months in Ho Chi Minh City. March and April are still great months to visit, but they’re noticeably hotter and a bit more humid than the previous three months. December, January, and February have a low amount of total rainfall, coupled with the coolest relative temperatures.

Is Ho Chi Minh City Crowded in February?

Ho Chi Minh City is at its busiest tourist-wise in December, January, and February. All of the popular attractions, like the Saigon Central Post Office above, and the Independence Palace below, as well as the War Remnants Museum, are busy. The central areas of District 1, like Nguyen Hue Street, Dong Khoi Street, and the Ben Thanh area, are very active.

But being a city of nearly 10 million people, HCMC maintains very high activity all year long. No matter when you decide to visit HCMC, you should expect the streets to be busy and chaotic, and the attractions to have a steady stream of visitors.
However, there is an exception to what I said above: the Tet holiday. For about two weeks, the city gets as quiet as it ever does. The holiday occurs in either January or February every year. I cover this more below.
Any Special Festivals or Events in February?
Tet is the biggest possible event in Ho Chi Minh City in February. I phrased it this way because Tet’s date changes every year. Some years, it falls in February. Others, in January.
Tet 2025 (Year of the Snake) was on January 29. For Tet 2026 (Year of the Horse), the holiday falls on February 17. Celebrations and activities are going on for at least the week prior and for days after. Many restaurants and shops close as locals travel out of town to visit family. And in my experience, this is the only time Ho Chi Minh City gets noticeably quieter.
To coincide with Tet, Vietnam also has Spring Flower Festivals. In Ho Chi Minh City, this happens at Tao Dan Park. If you’re in HCMC around the Tet holiday, you’ll notice a lot of flowers being sold and all sorts of decorations on many streets. It’s actually a nice time to be in the city.
Seeing as Tet 2026 will occur in February, you should plan your trip accordingly. A lot of travelers worry that nothing will be open, which isn’t true. Many places do close, but a lot of places stay open. I was in Ho Chi Minh City for Tet 2025, and finding places to eat wasn’t a problem at all (you can always look on the Grab app). And actually, I liked how quiet the city became.
