Using my years of experience living in Vietnam, I’ve written several guides on hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. I’ve covered everything from luxury hotels to hotels in specific districts, like District 1 and District 3. In this article, however, I am free to focus exclusively on my favorite budget hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.
Even with the drop in cost, I still value location. There are too many hotels in Ho Chi Minh City to be stuck in an inconvenient area. While some of these prices may have you wondering if there’s still a bed in the room, you’ll never be steps away from conveniences or attractions at these hotels.
These are some of my favorite budget hotels in Saigon; they’re all in great locations. If you have any questions about hotels or areas, ask me in my free Saigon travel planning Facebook group.
Map of Budget Hotels and Attractions in Saigon
Here’s a map of the budget hotels in this article. I’ve also included some of Ho Chi Minh City’s best attractions so you can see their proximity to the hotels. You can view the full map here.
How to use this map: Ahoy! Click the arrow in the top left-hand corner to view the layers. The purple bed icons are my favorite budget hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. The yellow stars of some of the city’s best attractions.
1. Huong Sen Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Top-tier location | You may get jealous of nearby luxury hotels |
Excellent price for the location | |
Surrounded by restaurants and bars | |
Steps from the Saigon River and the city’s attractions |
The Huong Sen Hotel is in a prime location on Dong Khoi Street, just steps from the Saigon River in one direction and the Ho Chi Minh Statue and Opera House in another.
Here’s a video I filmed outside the Huong Sen Hotel. It’s a great area.
Location, location, location. This hotel is in the same general location as some of the best luxury hotels in the city, like The Myst Dong Khoi, and is around the corner from The Reverie Saigon.
There is a small fitness room and a small outdoor pool. They are not fancy. If all you care about is location, this hotel is in the heart of District 1. But it will be lacking in amenities.
Rooms at the Huong Sen Hotel can be had for $40 per night.
2. Calista Saigon Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Great location | No swimming pool |
Excellent price for the location | |
Good breakfast buffet | |
Awesome gym nearby (Mach’s Gym) |
The Calista Saigon Hotel is in the Ben Thanh area of District 1, just a short walk away from the La Siesta Premium Hotel.
It benefits from being in the same great location: it is five minutes from Ben Thanh Market and eight minutes from the Independence Palace.
Here’s a video I filmed outside the Calista. This is a great location.
Also, one of my favorite gyms for travelers to Ho Chi Minh City, Mach’s Gym, is five minutes away. This gym offers an affordable day pass (80.000 VND) and a weekly pass (200.000 VND). It is small but air-conditioned and has everything needed for a workout while traveling.
Also, the Bui Vien area is less than a ten-minute walk away.
Rooms at the Calista Saigon Hotel can be had for $25 per night.
3. Riverside Hotel Saigon

Address: Google Maps
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Excellent location | Dated rooms and building |
Great price for the location | |
On the Saigon River | |
Easy access to the high-speed ferry |
The Riverside Hotel Saigon is in an excellent location right on the Saigon River in District 1. You’ll be steps from Dong Khoi Street and Nguyen Hue Street, and the Saigon River is right across the street.
I filmed this video outside the Riverside Hotel. This is a great area.
The Bach Dang Wharf Park is directly across the street along the river. There is a crosswalk right in front of the hotel, so you can easily cross the highway.
Just pay attention. Sticking your hands up or out when crossing the street helps to be seen.
In addition to walking through the park and admiring the river view, travelers can also access the Bach Dang Ferry Terminal. From here, you can catch the high-speed ferry directly to Vung Tau.
This entire area along the river, and on nearby Nguyen Hue Street and Dong Khoi Street, is a nice spot to base your Ho Chi Minh City vacation. Rooms at the Riverside Hotel Saigon can be had for $25 per night.
4. Akoya Saigon Central Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Excellent location | No swimming pool |
Steps from Ben Thanh Market | |
Newish (opened in 2019) | |
Great price for the location |
The Akoya Saigon Central is a three-star budget hotel in the Ben Thanh area of District 1. The hotel is on the newer side, having opened in 2019.
The hotel is located on one of the most convenient roads, Ly Tu Trong, and is three minutes from Ben Thanh Market, six minutes from the Independence Palace, and four minutes from one of my favorite gyms in Ho Chi Minh City for travelers, Mach’s Gym (C’Gym). The gym offers an affordable day pass (80,000 VND) and a weekly pass option for 200,000 VND.
The hotel has an excellent breakfast for the price range. There’s a range of foods catering to both American and Vietnamese cuisine.
Rooms at the Akoya Saigon Central can be had for $30 per night.
5. Meander Saigon Hostel & Coworking

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Newly built (2020) | None |
Great area of District 1 | |
Award-winning hostel (TripAdvisor and HostelWorld) | |
Nice coworking space | |
Clean |
Meander Saigon is a very nice hostel in District 1. It offers single rooms and dormitory beds. There is also a coworking space. This is a well-kept and clean place to stay.
Meander was founded in 2013 in Taipei, Taiwan. There are currently two locations in Taipei. This Ho Chi Minh City branch opened in 2020 and is their first international location.
At Meander, guests can get work done at their coworking space, which has hot desks, dedicated desks, and a private office.
The single rooms at Meander Saigon can go for $50 per night. Single beds in the dormitory or the female-only dormitory can cost $18 per night.
6. Vien Dong Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Excellent Bui Vien location | While some like the Bui Vien area, it can be a tourist trap |
Good park directly across the street | No pool |
Lots of food choices nearby | |
Great overall budget option |
The Vien Dong Hotel is the best budget hotel in Bui Vien. It sits directly on Pham Ngu Lao Street, right across from the September 23rd Park.
I filmed this video at the Vien Dong Hotel. It’s on a busy street in the Bui Vien area.
This is the best hotel if you want to stay in the Bui Vien area. It is situated in a prime spot, surrounded by countless eateries and bars.
Vien Dong offers a decent breakfast. The hotel does not have a pool. Some rooms have a great park view.
Rooms at the Vien Dong Hotel can be had for $40 per night.
7. Duc Vuong Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Directly on Bui Vien Walking Street | Potential to be noisy |
Serviceable breakfast buffet | |
Nice rooftop area |
The Duc Vuong Hotel is a budget hotel in an excellent location in Bui Vien. In fact, it is directly on Bui Vien Walking Street.
I filmed this video outside the Duc Vuong Hotel on Bui Vien Walking Street. This is a great place to stay if you want to be right in the action of Bui Vien.
The hotel has a nice rooftop viewing area and a serviceable breakfast buffet, considering its price range. You can eat and enjoy your breakfast on the roof.
This would be a nice hotel to stay in if you want an affordable place directly on Bui Vien. The location makes this an excellent choice. Keep in mind, though, that because of this great location, it can get noisy. Not every room is noisy, but some are more than others.
Because of its bigger size and location off the main road in Bui Vien, the Vien Dong Hotel may be a bit quieter (compared to the Duc Vuong Hotel) while still being action-adjacent. But I hope you didn’t come to Bui Vien for a quiet time anyway!
Rooms at the Duc Vuong Hotel can be had for $30 per night.
8. Oscar Saigon Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Top-tier location | Noisy (ask for a higher floor to best avoid) |
Excellent price for the location | No pool |
Directly on Nguyen Hue Street |
The Oscar Saigon Hotel is located directly on Nguyen Hue Street, around the corner from the Huong Sen Hotel. It is two minutes up the street from The Reverie Saigon, one of the nicest luxury hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.
Its location is a blessing and a curse. Personally, I think this would be the perfect budget hotel if not for the street noise. Nguyen Hue Street can get loud and busy at night, especially on the weekends, and this noise can make its way into the hotel.
But the physical location is excellent – perfect, actually. The Ho Chi Minh Statue is less than three minutes away.
Rooms at the Oscar Saigon Hotel can be had for $30 per night.
9. Wink Hotel Saigon Centre

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Clean and new-ish (2021) | Not as close to the attractions as others on my list |
Some rooms have a great view | |
Good breakfast | |
DIY laundry room |
The Wink Hotel Saigon Centre is a popular budget hotel in the Da Kao area of District 1.
The hotel opened in 2021 and has 237 rooms. All rooms have high-quality linen and pillows, air conditioning, black-out blinds, floor-to-ceiling windows, a smart TV, an in-room telephone, and an in-room safe.
The hotel has vending machines with needed items on every floor and other in-house areas to grab coffee and snacks on the go. There is an open hotel lobby to eat, lounge, and chill. There is also a 24/7 gym and laundry area.
If you plan on taking some tours while in Ho Chi Minh City, most of them offer pick-up from hotels in District 1. This would be a great budget hotel to crash at while taking daily tours. Rooms at the Wink Hotel Saigon Centre can be had for $45 per night.
10. Victory Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Excellent location in District 3 | The rooms and hotel may be a bit dated for some |
Three minutes from the War Remnants Museum | |
Great price for the location | |
There is a pool, but it can get crowded |
The Victory Hotel Saigon is an excellently located three-star budget hotel in District 3. Because of its location, price, and history dating back to 1968, it is one of the more popular hotels in District 3.
I filmed this video outside the Victory Hotel in D3. This is a great area.
The War Remnants Museum is less than three minutes away. Plus, the Independence Palace in District 1 is about six minutes away, directly down Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa Street.
The hotel has an in-house Vietnamese restaurant, the Hong Ha Restaurant, a lobby bar, and Victory Restaurant and Coffee, which is attached to the hotel right out front. There is also a breakfast buffet, a gym, and an outdoor pool on the 6th Floor.
Rooms at the Victory Hotel Saigon go for around $30 per night.
11. Aristo Saigon Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Great location in District 3 | None |
Right off Pasteur Street | |
Four minutes from the War Remnants Museum | |
Six minutes from the Independence Palace |
The Aristo Saigon Hotel is a great-located budget hotel in District 3. It is within easy walking distance of many of the best attractions in both District 1 and District 3.
The hotel is less than five minutes from the War Remnants Museum. It’s about six minutes from the Independence Palace. It’s less than 10 minutes from the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon and the Sai Gon Central Post Office. It’s in a great location, yet not exactly in the chaos of other centrally-located hotels.
The Aristo has a nice buffet breakfast and a full-service spa on site. Hotel guests receive good discounts on massages. There is a jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna as well.
Rooms at the Aristo Saigon Hotel can be had for around $40 per night.
12. Maison De Camille Boutique Hotel

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Quiet location and quiet hotel | In my opinion – none |
Good neighborhood to wander around | |
Thoughtful rooms and amenities | |
Good price |
The Maison De Camille Hotel is somewhat of a hidden gem if you’re looking for a quiet and affordable boutique hotel. It is located in Binh Thanh District.
Here’s a video I filmed outside the Maison De Camille. It’s on a quiet side street in Binh Thanh. You’ll want to make use of the Grab app to get around.
The hotel is clean, has excellent service, and great breakfast.
The only downside (for some) is its location: it is not within walking distance of the attractions of Districts 1 and 3. Personally, I like Binh Thanh and wandering around it. It’s a different area of the city worth exploring.
However, it is just off a main road, and hiring a GrabTaxi to view the attractions in Districts 1 or 3 is quite easy. A GrabTaxi from the hotel to the Ho Chi Minh Statue in District 1 will be about 60.000 VND. For a GrabBike (moto-taxi), about 25.000 VND. It will be about a 10-minute ride.
Because the hotel is located in Binh Thanh and right off Dien Bien Phu highway, you can easily access Thao Dien in District 2.
Rooms at the Maison De Camille go for around $40 per night.
13. Common Inn Thao Dien

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Great location in Thao Dien | Limited breakfast |
Clean rooms | |
Communal space on the roof |
The Common Inn is a budget boutique hotel off one of the more popular roads in Thao Dien, Xuan Thuy. The hotel sits on a smaller, quiet street, but it’s easily walkable up to the main restaurants, cafes, and bars on Xuan Thuy.
I filmed this video outside the Common Inn. It’s on a quiet street in Thao Dien.
The hotel is small, with 5 floors and 29 rooms. The building and its hotel rooms are clean and well-equipped. Plus, there’s a communal space to hang out.
This is in a great, quiet location in Thao Dien. Rooms at the Common Inn can be had for $30 per night.
14. Glenwood City Resort

Address: Google Maps • Hotel Website
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Good (not great) location in Thao Dien | Not the best location in Thao Dien |
Swimming pool | |
Good value for money |
The Glenwood City Resort is located in the back of Thao Dien in District 2.
Being in the back of Thao Dien, it’s a bit further from the action of popular Xuan Thuy Street (in front of Thao Dien). However, a GrabTaxi throughout Thao Dien doesn’t cost more than 20.000 – 30.000 VND per trip.
You can also walk from the Glenwood City Resort to most areas of interest in Thao Dien in about 10-15 minutes, which I’ve done myself numerous times.
Glenwood has a swimming pool, sauna, kid’s playground, and fitness center.
Also, one of my personal favorite coffee shops in Thao Dien is just a few minutes away – Bonjour Cafe The Art. It is worth checking out just for the decor – I’ve never seen anything like it.
Rooms at the Glenwood City Resort can be had for $40 per night.
