I’ve visited Hoi An many times in July to explore Old Town, visit the beaches, and drive through the rice fields. This guide lets you know what to expect if you visit Hoi An in July, including weather, crowds, hotels, and events.

Every photo and video in this article was taken by me during July in Hoi An.

July is a great time to visit Hoi An as long as you’re prepared for the heat. I’ll say it again: it will be hot in July. The heat is the biggest downside, and the positives are the rare chance of rain and blue skies.

I’ve had some travelers reach out to me, feeling a bit disappointed that these hot summer months were the only time they could visit Hoi An. I had to point out to them that, while hot, May, June, July, and August are not necessarily bad times to visit — just not the best. March and April are cooler, with little rain, and I consider these the best months to visit Hoi An.

But if you’re planning on swimming or staying at a hotel with a pool, July is a great month to visit. An Bang Beach and Cua Dai Beach are two of Hoi An’s beaches, and they have roped-off swimming areas and plenty of lounge chairs. There are also a bunch of hotels around Old Town with swimming pools. I’ve given some recommendations below.

Hoi An Weather in July

July is firmly in the dry season in Hoi An, which usually runs from January to sometime in August. July has highs of 34°C (93°F) and lows of 26°C (79°F). When I’m exploring Hoi An in July, I have to step inside a shop or hide out in the shade every hour or so. Thankfully, there are plenty of trees and shops in Hoi An to get relief from the sun.

If you visit Hoi An during July, expect it to be hot and humid. The positives, though, are blue skies and a low chance of rain. If you’re still doing trip research and you have total flexibility, I’d look at visiting Hoi An in March, April, or May.

Here’s a weather chart so you can see how July compares to other months in Hoi An. As you can see, it’s one of the hottest months of the year in Hoi An.

Is Hoi An Crowded in July?

The summer months are busy in Hoi An. Schools are on vacation, and the weather is clear and sunny (but hot). These are great months for swimming, so Hoi An’s beaches (An Bang, Cua Dai, and others) are usually pretty crowded.

The Old Town gets busy too. It’s much quieter during the daytime from around 11 AM to 2 PM, as most people avoid the heat. But if you can tolerate it, this is a good time to explore to avoid the crowds.

Here’s a video I filmed during July in Hoi An. I’m standing along the Thu Bon River in Old Town at around 1 PM. Here is the location on Google Maps.

As you can see, it’s pretty quiet. But from about 2 PM onward, the town slowly gets busier and busier as the evening rolls on. By 3 or 4 PM, there are usually a ton of people wandering the streets in Old Town.

At 3 PM, the city closes the Old Town to pedestrian-only traffic. Before 3 PM, you’ll see scooters (usually locals and occasionally a tourist) zipping through the Old Town. Here’s my article on getting around Hoi An.

Where to Stay in Hoi An in July

July is one of the hottest months in Hoi An. If you’re visiting Hoi An to explore the Old Town, you want to stay as close to it as possible. There are plenty of shops to step into and shade coverage in Old Town, but it’s still hot. Because of the heat, I’ll recommend a few hotels with swimming pools in great locations in Old Town.

The Hoian Central (Agoda / Booking) is in a great location right in Old Town. The Little Riverside (Agoda / Booking) is nearby, on the edge of Old Town, along the Thu Bon River. The RiverTown Hoi An (Agoda / Booking) is a good choice on An Hoi Island, right across from Old Town. All three of these have pools and are in great locations for exploring on foot.

For more choices and to learn about Hoi An’s different areas, see this guide here.

Any Special Festivals or Events in July?

The Hoi An Lantern Festival is a monthly event that happens on the 14th day of each lunar month (not calendar month!). Restaurants and shops turn off their electric lights, and the lit lanterns light up the Old Town.

It isn’t a typical “festival,” so don’t expect a ton of excitement. The event starts around 6 PM and lasts until around 10 PM.

    • I translated your comment to this, I hope it’s accurate: “Thank you very much. I learned a lot of interesting things about Danang. We are also going to Danang in July. I can’t choose a budget hotel 5*, 4*”

The Nesta Hotel is right across the street from the beach and is in a very convenient area for your first time in Da Nang. There are several other hotels in this area, but the Nesta looks like it has good prices for July. Here is the hotel: https://www.agoda.com/partners/partnersearch.aspx?pcs=1&cid=1919984&hid=31559197
