June, July, and August are the three hottest months in Hoi An. I was just down in Hoi An yesterday, and it was very hot — about 36°C (97°F). This is hotter than usual for this time of the year, but not by much. If you’re a beachgoer (or a poolgoer), it’s a great time to be here.

If you’re thinking of visiting Hoi An in June, this guide covers the weather, crowds, hotels, and events. Every photo and video in this article was taken during June in Hoi An.

Is June a Good Time to Visit Hoi An?

June is the first of three consecutive very hot months in Hoi An. If you’re prepared for the heat, June is a great time to visit Hoi An. The Old Town in Hoi An is relatively busy year-round, but daily, it’s quiet from around 11 AM to 2 PM — this is especially true during these hot months.

I was in Hoi An yesterday (June 1), walking around Old Town from about 2 PM onward, and it was hot (borderline sweltering). But it was mostly quiet until about 3:30 to 4 PM when it started getting busy. This happens year-round: the Old Town becomes busier and busier into the evening and night daily.

I would look into visiting An Bang or Cua Dai beaches, which are about 10 minutes from Old Town. These have roped-off swimming areas and plenty of lounge chairs for rent. If you’re not a beach person, look into a hotel with a swimming pool. I’ll add my recommendations in the section below.

If you’re still doing trip research and have total flexibility, I’d look at visiting Hoi An in March, April, or May. This article covers the best time to visit Hoi An.

Is Hoi An Crowded in June?

Hoi An maintains a steady stream of tourists year-round. This is mainly due to the Old Town being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also because it’s affordable, walkable, and charming. Also, its proximity to Da Nang is another big draw for visitors. People looking to enjoy My Khe Beach in Da Nang during the summer also make day trips down to Hoi An to see the Old Town.

I filmed this video at 3:30 PM in Old Town in June. I’m standing at a popular crossroads in front of the Thu Bon River. Here is the location.

Ancient Town in Hoi An in June

At 3 PM, the city closes the Old Town to pedestrian-only traffic. The Old Town area will become pretty busy as the evening rolls on. Before 3 PM, there are scooters (usually locals and occasionally a tourist) zipping through the Old Town. Here’s my article on getting around Hoi An.

If you’re visiting Hoi An mainly to see the Old Town, you should stay as close to it as possible because of the heat. I also recommend staying somewhere with a pool, so you can take a dip to cool off between exploring.

The hotel picture above, the La Charm Hotel (Agoda / Booking), is in a great location for exploring Old Town on foot and has a pool. I was just here yesterday. Another good choice with a swimming pool is the Allegro Hoi An (Agoda / Booking).

Any Special Festivals or Events in June?

The Hoi An Lantern Festival is a monthly event that happens on the 14th day of each lunar month (not calendar month!). Restaurants and shops turn off their electric lights, and the lit lanterns light up the Old Town.

It isn’t a typical “festival,” so don’t expect a ton of excitement. The event starts around 6 PM and lasts until around 10 PM.
