My Khe Beach: A Local’s Guide for Visitors

Dear reader: I visit every place I write about and use only my own original images and videos in my articles. This article contains affiliate links, which I may be compensated for at no extra cost to you. This allows me to continue creating original Vietnam content.

My Khe Beach has grown a lot since I moved to Da Nang in 2018. Back then, there was a beachside path, but the beach itself was largely empty except for a couple of areas with sun loungers for rent. Maintenance and landscaping on and around the beach were mostly neglected.

Now, there are several areas with loungers for rent, and many small and medium-sized beachside bars and places to eat. They’ve also planted more palm trees in parts of the sand for natural shade cover. The beach’s landscape and ambiance have improved quite a bit.

The paved beachside walking path has turned out very nice. It extends several kilometers along the beach and is great for morning or evening walks or runs. I’m on this path a few times per week. The city is clearly taking steps to improve and maintain the My Khe Beach area.

If you’re planning a trip to Da Nang, check out my guides on when to visit, how to get around, and things to do — in addition to visiting My Khe Beach. Here’s a sample one-day Da Nang itinerary to get you started.

Don’t forget to read my Da Nang travel guide.

Anthony’s note: The beaches in Da Nang are always pretty quiet during the morning and afternoon. Vietnamese locals are not sun worshippers (they’re sun avoiders), so during the day, beachgoers are predominantly tourists. This changes from around 4 PM onwards, when many locals get off work, kids finish school, and the beaches suddenly become very crowded into the night.

Where to Stay Near My Khe Beach

Vo Nguyen Giap Street runs parallel to My Khe Beach along the coast. There are a lot of hotels along this street, and pockets of varying activity levels further inland. Da Nang’s beach side gradually becomes less touristy and more local as you head north toward Son Tra Mountain.

If you want to be directly across from the beach, look at the M Hotel Danang (Agoda / Booking) or the HAIAN Beach Hotel (Agoda / Booking). Both hotels are in the My An area, a very popular place to stay. I cover this area and more in my guide to where to stay in Da Nang.

North of the My An area, there’s a nice cluster of hotels across from the beach in a slightly less touristy area. Personally, I would stay in this area or even a bit further north.

Within the hotel cluster are the Monarque Hotel (Agoda / Booking) and the Belle Maison (Agoda / Booking). There are a few other good choices, but this is a great location for easy access to My Khe Beach.

If you’re looking for a beach resort, the Pullman Danang (Agoda / Booking) is just outside the My An area. For more hotels, here’s my Da Nang hotel article.

Visiting My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach is free to visit. There are several roped-off swimming areas up the coast, with lifeguards on duty. The lifeguards usually stop around 8 PM.

If you want to rent a sun lounger, they cost around 40.000 VND each for the whole day. There are many groups of sun loungers up the coast, most with nearby small beach bars or vendors that sell smoothies, fresh juice, cold drinks, and beer.

On the sand near the water, a local business offers water sports. They operate out of a small tent, with a few locations staggered up the coast. The launch points and tents are easy to find — look for the banana boats or parasailers taking off.

Currently, they offer parasailing for one or two people, banana boating, or jet skiing.

When I stopped by one tent for information recently, there was a continuous stream of people going parasailing. Each trip seemed to take about 10 to 12 minutes.

Here’s a video I took of some parasailers taking off.

For food, there are a lot of food truck-sized places to eat with seating, as well as some bigger beachside restaurants/bars, all along the walking path. For more food choices, this article details some places I like to eat.

These first few are further south, closer to the My An area.

Further north, across from the hotel cluster I mentioned above, are several big beachside restaurants. This is where I’d go for a heartier, filling meal, right on the beach. East West Brewing, Mad Platter, and Esco Beach are solid choices. There are others here.
