I’ve lived in Da Nang for several seasons. There are dry and rainy seasons, with mixed-weather periods in between. If you have trip flexibility, the best time to visit Da Nang is March, April, or May. This is safely after the rainy season but just before the intense heat of June, July, and August.
If you plan on spending time on the beach or swimming at your hotel pool, June, July, and August are still good times to visit. But if the beach and swimming are more of an afterthought, I’d visit in March or April when it’s cooler.
The TMS Hotel Da Nang Beach (Agoda / Booking) or the Sala Danang Beach Hotel (Agoda / Booking) are great options near My Khe Beach. For more choices, this guide covers Da Nang’s best areas to stay.

Best Time to Visit Da Nang: March, April, May

What to expect: hot temperatures, rare chance of rain
The best times to visit Da Nang and central Vietnam are March, April, or May. The rainy season sometimes ends in January, but not always. This past year, for example, it was cloudy and occasionally rainy well into February.
March, April, or May are great because the rainy season will have ended, and it’s just before the hottest time of the year. This is the brief window of dry and slightly cooler weather.
March and April are the best of the three only because May starts to get hot.
Expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s°F (28° to 31°C) in March and April. In May, expect temperatures in the high 80s°F and low 90s°F (31° to 33°C). It will begin getting very hot as May rolls into June and July.
Second Best Time to Visit Da Nang: June, July, August

What to expect: hottest temperatures, rare chance of rain
June, July, and August are the second-best times to visit Da Nang and central Vietnam, but it will be hot.
The rain is nearly nonexistent, and the skies are clear and blue. But these three months are typically the year’s hottest months in Da Nang. Remember, this goes for Hue and Hoi An, too.
In June, July, and August, expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s°F (mid-to-upper 30s°C). The temperature decline begins in September.
Worst Time to Visit Da Nang: September to February

What to expect: cooler temperatures, high chance of rain
In my opinion, September through February are the worst times to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue — only because of the rain and often gloomy skies.
September, January, or February aren’t exactly bad times to visit. The rainy season usually starts in September, so planning a trip for this month is risky.
January and February are two months when I’ve never loved the weather in Da Nang. They are cool and dry months, but for whatever reason, I never found the skies to be as clear blue as others. There’s usually a lingering cloudiness in these months. Clear, blue skies are the best way to experience Da Nang.
The four wettest months of the year are September, October, November, and December, with October and November being the two wettest.
Otherwise, this period brings the coolest temperatures of the year.
When the temperature starts to drop in September, expect temperatures in the upper 80s°F (31°C). October will be in the mid-80s°F (29°C), and November will be in the low 80s°F (27°C).
December, January, and February have the lowest temperatures of the year. Temperatures reach the high 70s°F (25°C) and get as low as the high 60s°F (20°C).
There will be days when it rains all day and other days when it’s only a brief shower or not at all. It’s the low season in Da Nang and Hoi An, and hotel prices are also at their cheapest.
Of these months, I would choose January and February. They are the driest and coolest.
When to Visit Da Nang: Conclusion

If you have trip flexibility, March, April, or May are great months. They are dry yet before the boiling heat. If I had to choose just one, I’d pick April. It is well into the dry season and right before the escalating temperature in May.
June, July, and August are very dry but bring intense heat. The heat may be a non-issue if you’re a beach-goer and plan to spend time on My Khe Beach in Da Nang or An Bang Beach in Hoi An.
But if you plan to explore on foot a lot, like in Da Nang’s city or Hoi An’s Old Town, the heat will drain you after an hour or two.
January and February are cooler months with a low chance of rain. I’ve just always found the skies a bit cloudy and dark then. But these months are part of the low season, so you’ll find better deals on flights and hotels in Da Nang and Hoi An.
I wouldn’t purposely plan a Da Nang vacation for October or November (the two wettest months). But if you have to, prepare your poncho.
what about nha trang?
Similar timing of rainy/dry season but much more mild in Nha Trang. Not as hot in the summers. September, October, November are the rainiest months (like Da Nang), but much less rain than Da Nang. Overall, much better weather year round in Nha Trang.
We have no choice but to visit end of June/ early July. Are there ample places (cafes, shops, etc…) to take a break from the heat while exploring the town?
Hey Gillian. It’s still a good time to visit, just hot. Da Nang is a bit spread out, so it will depend where you go exploring. But in general, yes, there are plenty of cafes/restaurants. If you’re going down to visit Hoi An, there are a lot of places in the Old Town to step into to get away from the heat for a bit. If you’re swimmers, that’s good. Plenty of roped-off swimming areas in both cities.
