September is a tricky month to visit Da Nang. The rainy season will usually have started, but there are still random days of clear skies. On the plus side, the temperatures are a bit cooler than the previous four months.
If you’re planning to visit Da Nang in September, I’ll go over what you can expect regarding the weather and crowds, as well as tips and any events below. Every photo in this article was taken by me during September in Da Nang.
Is September a Good Month to Visit Da Nang?

If you’re planning your trip months in advance, September is not a good time to choose to visit Da Nang. I took the above photo on September 1, and it was one of the few nice days in September. What followed was a lot of rainy days.
If the rainy season hasn’t started in August, it’ll start sometime in September. It’s not nearly as bad as October, which is by far the worst month to visit Da Nang and central Vietnam.
You may get some sunny days in September, but then several rainy days in a row right after. On the plus side, the temperature is a bit cooler than the previous four months (May, June, July, August), which are the hottest months in Da Nang.
If you’re someone with the freedom to book travel last minute, you could wait it out and see how September unfolds. When it isn’t raining, Da Nang is nice in September — you just can’t count on sunny days.
Da Nang Weather in September

The rainy season in Da Nang usually lasts from September to December. But in my experience, I’ve noticed hints of it starting in August and sometimes lasting through January. It isn’t always the rain that notifies me, but the lingering gray skies. Da Nang and nearby Hoi An are really best when the skies are clear — the beaches, mountains, rivers, bridges, and rice fields all stand out.
With the rainy season in September, you can expect periods of all-day rain, then random days of blue skies. Expect about 291 mm of rain spread over 16 days. I filmed this video on September 11 (my birthday) on My Khe Beach.
September has highs of 31°C (88°F) and lows of 25°C (77°F). Like I said above, if you get lucky and hit a stretch of a few nice days in a row, September could be a good time to visit Da Nang. This weather chart provides an overview so you can see how September compares with other months in Da Nang.

Is Da Nang Crowded in September?

Da Nang was an active city before it became a popular tourist location. The city’s population is about 1.2 million, so it’s fairly active all year round. During the rainy season, I just make sure to have a poncho in my scooter trunk, and then deal with the daily rain. Otherwise, I go about my normal life around the city.
The tourist attractions, like the Linh Ung Pagoda and Lady Buddha above, draw crowds whenever it isn’t raining. This was a clear day for a while, but it slowly got cloudier as the day went on. Here’s a video I filmed from the Lady Buddha statue in September.
My Khe Beach maintains constant activity from locals year-round. When it isn’t raining, locals use the beach for exercise classes in the morning and again at night. During the day, when it isn’t raining, the beach contains mostly tourists. However, My Khe Beach is much quieter on a sunny day in September compared to a sunny day in June, July, or August.
In Da Nang’s touristy areas, like the My An area and its An Thuong streets, things definitely quiet down in September. The same goes for the popular city-side areas, like Bach Dang Street and Tran Phu Street near Han Market. In September, there is a general slowing down of tourist activity around the city.
Any Special Festivals or Events in September?
There are no significant events or special festivals planned for September (as far as I know).
hi, thanks for your informative tips! I plan to travel around last week of Sept to early Oct (school holidays in Australia), I dont mind the rain, what do you think? If its a definitely no-go, then I will look for other destinations.
We can only go by “chances” with the weather. In my experience, the rainy season usually starts end of August/early September. So there’s a strong chance that by the end of September, it will be rainy. But I’ve been here in Septembers and Octobers when the weather has been nice and sunny — but it’s rare. On the plus side, September is much cooler than June, July, and August. So if you get some clear days, it’ll be nicer outside to explore Da Nang or Hoi An.
