The Scarlett Boutique Hotel Hue Review: A Great Value Stay

Dear reader: I visit every place I write about and use only my own original images and videos in my articles. This article contains affiliate links, which I may be compensated for at no extra cost to you. This allows me to continue creating original Vietnam content.

I’m pretty sure that the Scarlett Boutique Hotel Hue is one of the best boutique hotels in Hue. I feel confident saying this because after staying here for three days, I don’t know how a boutique hotel experience could be better.

The hotel is in a great location, right in the center of Hue, within walking distance to numerous places to eat and cafes. The thing about Hue is that the city’s attractions are spread out, so there isn’t one area or hotel to stay where you can walk to them all easily. You could make the walk from this hotel to Hue Imperial City in about 30 minutes: it’s actually a nice walk, over the famous Truong Tien Bridge.

But as an affordable place to base yourself while visiting Hue, and to come back after a day of exploring and have a lot of places to eat nearby, this is a great place to stay in Hue.

Other than the Imperial City, you’ll want to visit the three best tombs in Hue: Khai Dinh, Minh Mang, and Tu Duc.

First, the staff: The staff members at this hotel are some of the friendliest, most accommodating bunch I’ve ever dealt with in any hotel, period. It’s a small staff that handles everything together, from check-in to breakfast service and anything else you’d need. They wear a lot of different hats. Look for Linda, Ruby, David, Thanh, and the others.

My room: The Scarlett Boutique Hotel Hue has 18 hotel rooms. I stayed in their Executive Deluxe room, which is 25 sqm. This is on the smaller side if you were planning to spend a lot of time in the room. I booked my room through Agoda and paid $30 USD per night, which included breakfast. Keep in mind that I traveled to Hue during the low season (September).

The room overall was pretty clean. I regularly looked for ants or other small bugs and didn’t find a single one over three days. My bathroom shower was inside the bathtub, which I found a little slippery to get in and out of.

Because it is a boutique hotel, it doesn’t benefit from the same height or overall building size as larger hotels. So I found that the noise levels inside the building varied greatly depending on the other guests. Sometimes it was perfectly quiet, other times I could hear guests in adjacent rooms or in the hallways. The hotel is down a small, private alley, so I didn’t hear much car traffic outside.

At a bigger hotel in Hue, like the Indochine Palace, internal noise and street traffic noise were entirely a non-issue for me.

The breakfast: The hotel’s breakfast buffet is, overall, on the smaller side compared to bigger hotels, but it covers all of the necessities: fresh fruit, coffee, bread, yogurt, mini sandwiches, and other things.

Each day, the staff will ask you what you want for breakfast the following morning. There are several choices, and you can choose something different each time. There are egg omelets, bun bo Hue, and a few other dishes. This way, when you show up for breakfast in the morning, they’ll cook what you ordered the day before.

FYI, bun bo Bue originated in Hue. You’ll want to be sure to try a few different places serving this dish in Hue. I also had bun bo Hue at N. Cafe & Restaurant, which is just outside Hue Imperial City. It was great. You could visit here before or after going inside the Imperial City.

The location: As I mentioned, the hotel is down a small, quiet alley in a central area of Hue. The alley is quiet and safe. There is scooter parking right outside if you end up renting a scooter. The hotel can help you arrange this. At the time of writing, there is a convenience store next to the hotel where you can buy extra bottles of water and any needed toiletries.

The Scarlett Boutique Hotel Hue is less than five minutes walking from one of Hue’s walking streets, which is full of restaurants and bars. If you’re familiar with Bui Vien in Saigon, this is a toned-down version of that.

Bottom line: The location and friendly staff make this a great place to stay when visiting Hue.
